The Jonnycake Center of Westerly is a small non-profit serving the communities of Westerly, Charlestown, Richmond and Hopkinton since 1975. The agency has an emergency food pantry, social service office, and a retail thrift store which also serves as a source of free clothing and household goods for clients.

Facilities Coordinator

The Jonnycake Center of Westerly seeks a part time Facilities Coordinator to oversee building and maintenance activities at the Center. Apply here.

 

Job Title: Facilities Coordinator
Responsible to: Executive Director and assignees

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

· Primary: Coordinate building needs (repairs and maintenance)

· Identify safety and maintenance issues and potential solutions (either in-house or with vendors)

· Maintenance and repair of a variety of building and tenant needs, including lighting, doors, windows, flooring, roofing, entry and exit ways, etc.

· Monitor supply and re-stock items such as ice-melt, cleaning supplies and paper products.

· Coordinate or perform snow removal, leaf removal, salting/sanding of walkways and lots, and other similar needs.

· Sweeping in hallways, light cleaning

· Identify tools and equipment necessary for building and property upkeep.

· Liaise with contractors, vendors, tenants, and officials for building needs, including (but not limited to) Utilities companies, Fire safety, Building tenant and contractors for repair and maintenance of inside and outside of building

· Work with supervisor(s) to create a short- and long-term building repair/enhancement schedule to proactively anticipate facility needs

· Part of team to respond to alarms and rare off-hours building needs or urgent issues.

· Assist other employees, vendors, tenants, donors, clients, volunteers, and customers as needed.

· Keeping work areas neat/tidy/stocked appropriately, and any other duties needed to help fulfill our mission and abide by our organization’s values.

 

Education/work experience:

· HS diploma/GED
· Experience with power tools and hand tools
· Experience with basic home and building repairs
· Experience working with vendors and repair companies

 

Requirements:

· Ability to follow directions and work independently within parameters of instructions given.

· Ability to follow health and safety protocols.

· Ability to communicate clearly and work cooperatively with others.

· Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.

· Ability to comply with all company policies and procedures.

· Requires flexibility with schedule as dependent on seasonal needs.

The Jonnycake Center is looking for TWO diligent team players for part-time (20 hours) positions as a Retail Associate & Cashier.

 

Tasks could include the sorting, processing, and hanging of clothing and textile donations, merchandising, and cashiering.

With over 7,000 sq. ft. to explore and thousands of items moving on and off the sales floor each day, there are always new treasures to see and new projects to interest you. Marketing Intern (Part-Time Volunteer)

The Jonnycake Center of Westerly seeks a dynamic and well-rounded Social Media Intern to join our team for fall 2021!

 

High school and college-age students with an interest in photography, marketing, retail, and non-profit social work are strongly encouraged to apply.

 

Please note that this position requires the candidate’s physical presence for 3-10 hours per week. While some work can be performed remotely, the nature of this position requires hands-on involvement on-site.

 

Description of work to be performed:

 

Photography:

  • Photograph products from our Thrift Store in an engaging, attractive manner and work with the Marketing Manager to reach our digital audience (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, email blasts).
  • Use creative and trendy styles to help capture our products in an eye-catching and appealing manner for social media posts.
  • Photograph the Jonnycake facility, including staff, volunteers, and community members, as well as community events (when scheduled).

 

Graphic Design:

  • Check out our Facebook (Facebook.com/JonnycakeCenterWesterly) and Instagram (instagram.com/thejonnycakecenter) pages to learn what we do and how we promote it.
  • Use Canva to add text and graphics to create daily posts to advertise store specials.
  • Use the Jonnycake Center of Westerly’s existing templates as part of the branding for Facebook posts.
  • Use other apps for Facebook or Instagram to help promote our operations and inform our audience.
  • Prior experience with graphic design is a big plus!

 

Social Media Content/Eblast Content:

  • Write funny and engaging posts on a variety of related topics (see our Facebook page) targeting the Jonnycake Center of Westerly’s online demographic.
  • Use proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation at all times.
  • Adept at writing to target audiences.

 

Collaborate:

  • Work closely with staff in showcasing our work and community initiatives.
  • Provide insight and feedback on how the Jonnycake Center can improve processes, engagement, or overall business.
  • Other duties as assigned.
