The Jonnycake Center of Westerly is a small non-profit serving the communities of Westerly, Charlestown, Richmond and Hopkinton since 1975. The agency has an emergency food pantry, social service office, and a retail thrift store which also serves as a source of free clothing and household goods for clients.

Director of Development

The Jonnycake Center of Westerly seeks a full time Director of Development to increases the Center’s revenues through grants, individual giving and fundraising events.

 

Job Title: Director of Development

Responsible to: Executive Director

 

General Description:

 

The Director of Development, part of the senior management team and reporting to the Executive Director, is responsible for developing and implementing a strategic plan to increase revenues (including grants, donations, and special events income) in an on-going, cost-effective and time-efficient manner. This position also plays an outreach and communication role within the organization, in coordination with the Social Media and Marketing Manager: assisting with the development of collateral materials, annual reports, website, and newsletters. The Director of Development also represents the Center publicly at various events and meetings.

 

The Director of Development:

 

  • Implements a fund development plan in accordance with ethical fundraising principles.
  • Conducts research, prepares and submits grants applications on behalf of the organization in a timely manner and meeting all deadlines.
  • Works with department heads and bookkeeping staff to ensure reporting targets are met.
  • Manages donor giving campaigns such as the spring and fall appeal, engages mail and printing firms, the Center’s Board of Directors, and volunteer support as needed.
  • Develops and maintains long-term relationships with private and corporate donors, as well as cultivates prospective donors.
  • In collaboration with the Development Assistant, maintains donor records, mailing lists, and donor database, respecting the privacy and confidentiality of donor information, including establishing retention guidelines and proper disposal of said records.
  • Ensures the timely production and accuracy of all donor acknowledgement correspondence.
  • Serves as a staff liaison to the Development Committee.
  • Monitors and evaluates all fundraising activities to ensure goal achievement and that activities are on trend with the community/region.
  • Keeps accurate records of all events.
  • Fosters an understanding of philanthropy within the organization.
  • Other duties as need to help fulfill the Center’s mission and abide by our organization’s values.

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in fundraising, business, communications, public administration or nonprofit administration, marketing or related field.
  • Experience in a Marketing, Public Relations, Philanthropy or Donor Cultivation role.
  • Excellent persuasive writing skills.

 

Requirements:

 

  • Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.
  • Work cooperatively with others.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures.
  • Greet and assist donors, customers, clients, Board Members and volunteers in a professional and friendly manner.
  • Strong and accurate written and verbal communication skills are a must.
  • Some occasional driving to offsite meetings is required.
  • Ability to follow directions and work independently within parameters of instructions given.
  • Ability to talk and listen effectively both in person and on the phone/video meetings.
  • Occasional nights and/or weekends would be required for Center events (approx. 1 day per month).

Marketing Intern (Part-Time Volunteer)

The Jonnycake Center of Westerly seeks a dynamic and well-rounded Social Media Intern to join our team for fall 2021!

 

High school and college-age students with an interest in photography, marketing, retail, and non-profit social work are strongly encouraged to apply.

 

Please note that this position requires the candidate’s physical presence for 3-10 hours per week. While some work can be performed remotely, the nature of this position requires hands-on involvement on-site.

 

Description of work to be performed:

 

Photography:

  • Photograph products from our Thrift Store in an engaging, attractive manner and work with the Marketing Manager to reach our digital audience (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, email blasts).
  • Use creative and trendy styles to help capture our products in an eye-catching and appealing manner for social media posts.
  • Photograph the Jonnycake facility, including staff, volunteers, and community members, as well as community events (when scheduled).

 

Graphic Design:

  • Check out our Facebook (Facebook.com/JonnycakeCenterWesterly) and Instagram (instagram.com/thejonnycakecenter) pages to learn what we do and how we promote it.
  • Use Canva to add text and graphics to create daily posts to advertise store specials.
  • Use the Jonnycake Center of Westerly’s existing templates as part of the branding for Facebook posts.
  • Use other apps for Facebook or Instagram to help promote our operations and inform our audience.
  • Prior experience with graphic design is a big plus!

 

Social Media Content/Eblast Content:

  • Write funny and engaging posts on a variety of related topics (see our Facebook page) targeting the Jonnycake Center of Westerly’s online demographic.
  • Use proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation at all times.
  • Adept at writing to target audiences.

 

Collaborate:

  • Work closely with staff in showcasing our work and community initiatives.
  • Provide insight and feedback on how the Jonnycake Center can improve processes, engagement, or overall business.
  • Other duties as assigned.
